Orlando, a city in Florida

Orlando is a large city in the Florida state of the USA. With the population of about 235,000 people the Orlando is one of the most urbanized cities in Florida. Being an agricultural in the past centuries after the development that began in 1970-s the city turned into a major industrial center and a popular tourist destination with many notorious resorts such as Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando and Lake Buena Vista. Orlando is also home for the Walt Disney World, which attracts a great part of the city’s tourist inflow.

The history of Orlando begins quite long ago, but there very few traces of native tribes’ settlements. The first settlers arrived here in 1836 and in 1885 the settlement already became a city. During this period Orlando experienced its so-called Golden Era, when it was the greatest citrus growing region in Florida. Till the First World War the city was a popular resort. After the Second World War in Orlando were built several large plants such as Lockheed Martin. The key event in the history of the city became the decision to build here the Walt Disney World. Since the opening of this resort in 1971 tourism became the major sector of the economy. Now Orlando is considered to one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and can offer its visitors practically the widest choice of theme parks, resorts and entertainment.

Costa Cruises: more cruises in Asia
